LinkedIn Hits 300 Million Members

LinkedIn Hits 300 Million Members Its non-stop news from our friends down at the big L, the other week we reported that LinkedIn now has 15 million users in Britain and now theyve hit the milestone of  300 million  members  in more than 200 countries and territories. The company has added more than 23 million members since the beginning of the year. More than half of the 300 million LinkedIn members now live outside of the U.S., enough to make LinkedIn the fourth largest country in the world (just dont make the same comparison with  Facebook please). The top countries for members  are the U.S., India, Brazil, Great Britain and Canada. The largest industries represented on LinkedIn are: Information Technology and Services Hospital Health Care Construction Education  Management Accounting Mobile is critical to LinkedIn, with mobile accounts for more than  50 percent of all global traffic. Members in dozens of locations including Costa Rica, Malaysia, Singapore, Sweden, United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom, use LinkedIn more on their mobile devices than on their desktop computers. Every day LinkedIn sees  an average of 15 million profile views, 1.45 million job views and 44,000 job applications in over 200 countries through mobile. Another interesting shift of strategy is that LinkedIn are now gunning for the 3.3 billion people who are in the global workforce, not just the 640 odd million who are professionals.  Next stop global domination in other words watch out Zuck! The Must Have Skill Sets For the New World - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career What are the skills that you will need to have in the new economy? If youve ever wondered what some of these skills are, this post is for you. Skill sets for the new world 1.) Social media and Web 2.0 know how: To understand how social media and Web 2.0 are changing industries gives you a deeper level of understanding on the new economy. It will be a competitive edge as you think through challenges and opportunities in your marketplace. 2.) The ability to write effectively: The need to be a good writer is increasing every year. We write more email, send more text messages, and write more blog posts than ever before. Good writing skills help you to communicate your thoughts and blogging can help you reach your goals faster. 3.) Ability to create relationships virtually and physically: Nobody can do it alone; you are going to need a lot of help along the way. Opportunities come to individuals that have taken the time to create their social network both virtually and physically. It has never been easier to have a wide social network. Start connecting. 4.) Knowing how to leverage your network Knowing how to approach those in your network so they can help bring you opportunities is an art form. Start getting in the habit of expressing your ideas to influencers in your niche. Some will work, some wont, but the ones that work will push you down the path to success. 5.) Knowing how to get to to influencers: Learn how to get to influencers using social media, email, and yes, even the good old telephone. The more you start to reach out to others to connect with them the more influential connections you will have. Half the battle is just trying, you will be surprised what happens when you try. 6.) The ability to sell yourself: Get really good at expressing your interests and what makes you different. Have fun with it and just be yourself. This is not about being a walking blow horn, but knowing how to take advantage of the opportunity when it is staring at you in the face. These 30 seconds can make or break you. 7.) Having a platform: You need to have a home base that can be indexed by Google. You need a place where you have complete editorial control. The easiest way to do this is with a blog. Blogs can launch you into some very exciting and interesting work. You need a platform. Get good at these seven skills, they will become increasingly important in the evolving world we live in. If you are not good at some of these skills head to Google or Amazon and do some reading. You will be happy you did. Me 2.o: Revised and Updated Edition: 4 Steps to Building Your Future Perhaps, like many of you, Me 2.0 provided my introduction to Dan Schawbel, when I discovered it on sale at my local Barnes Noble. I was hooked by its candor and bought it on the spot. Me 2.0 provoked me to take a fresh look at branding. The more I read, the more I liked. The next day, I returned and purchased additional copies for each of my sons. Dans advice and perspective are invaluable; I encourage all parents to buy a copy of Me 2.0 for the college students, recent graduates, and career-oriented Gen Yer in their lives. Me 2.0 played a major role in my youngest sons career, encouraging him to take greater control over his future by creating and leveraging brand-building opportunities within his firm and becoming active online. Dans advice helped my son to the extent that, at 30, he was able to take a year-long leave of absence and move to Australia, confident that the firm would welcome him back upon his return!
